A spectacular and very rare rich green nephrite jade carved pendant from the iconic San Francisco retailer, Gump's. Jade jewelry from Gump's of San Francisco is among the most valued and collectible jade jewelry on the market. It's rare to find vintage Gump's pieces. My grandmother was an avid collector and I grew up obsessed with Gump's myself. I have probably read every Gump's mail order catalog ever printed at least five times. So when I tell you this is a very special piece; it's a very special piece. Hand-carved from very fine quality nephrite jade, the pendant depicts a pair of koi fish. Because koi fish swim upstream, their image is associated with strength and perseverance. Gump's throughout the years offered several different koi fish pendants but this is the finest example I've seen. Measuring 39mm north to south and 28mm West to East, this sizeable pendant is just over 9mm thick and weighs 20 grams. The jade is highly translucent and has even color saturation. This is very "gemmy" nephrite with a high, glossy polish. Both sides of the pendant are carved. The 14K yellow gold bail will accommodate many chains but I happen to have what I feel is the perfect chain for this carving and I will include it as a complimentary gift with pendant: a simple curb-link chain in 14K yellow gold, 21" in length and very sturdy. The clasp has a locking closure mechanism so the chain is nice and secure. This is the kind of jade pendant you can wear every day of your life. Wear it under your shirt or over your shirt; wear it when you go to the supermarket or CrossFit; wear it when you give a speech. On a long black silk cord, this striking deep emerald-green treasure will attract every eye in the room. Gump's was not perfect. Some of their designs were rather unremarkable and it is these lackluster pieces that tend to find their way to the various online stores. But this pendant is Gump's at their best. Pieces like this rarely enter the market or reach the auction houses. They get passed down through families. This is an opportunity that may not arise again for quite some time. Fully hallmarked for metal fineness and Gump's.
