"Handy Heart" Necklace in Mixed Yellow & White Gold with White Diamonds
About the Item
This is a fun little necklace Eytan Brandes assembled from various bits and pieces.
The 18 karat yellow gold hands, with their cuffed gloves and frosty finish, are two of about a dozen hand charms acquired in a kooky mixed lot Eytan acquired several years ago. This lot came from a retired jeweler in San Francisco and consisted of stock and findings made in the mid-1940's or earlier.
The 18 karat yellow gold wheat chain is about ten years old and is in excellent condition. It's a loose weave, about 1.3mm thick, with a spring ring closure and full markings.
The 14 karat white gold heart started out in life as an earring. It probably dates from the 1990s and features eight tiny channel-set full-cut white diamonds. The total diamond weight is estimated at 0.05 carats.
All together, the centerpiece is about 1-3/4" wide and the necklace is just under 18" long.
The total weight is 5.6 grams, of which about 0.5 grams is 14K gold. The remainder (other than the trace weight of the diamonds) is 18 karat gold.

Additions or alterations made to the original: This is an assembled piece, so loops have been added, backs have been removed, links have been cut, joins have been soldered and surfaces have been polished... The hands are unused old stock. The chain is about ten years old but in excellent condition. The heart came from a pair of earrings, circa 1990. All parts have been thoroughly cleaned and polished in the process of assembling this piece.
