About the Item

1970s Thomas Fattorini and Sons "Tutmania" necklace, inspired by the treasures of King Tutankhamun and the subsequent 1970s world tour of the discovered artifacts, gilt metal with enameled decoration, and faux lapis lazuli scarab beetle pendant measures 4.25" high by 4.5" wide and suspends from two 9" chains. It is signed on reverse Thomas Fattorini, Ltd., Regent Street, Birmingham. In very good vintage 1970s condition showing minor signs of wear conducive to age. The Fattorini Company was commissioned by the Times newspaper in 1972 to produce a range of replica jewellery for sale at the British Museum (London) during the Tutankhamun Exhibition which ran from March-December 1972. The Times newspaper sponsored the Exhibition because they had financed the original dig in Egypt which led to the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. The four pieces made for sale at the Museum were: A pectoral pendant Scarab bracelet Cartouche ring Eye of the Horus ring The original samples had to be submitted for the approval of the Curator of a museum in Egypt, the Curator of the Egyptian Antiquities and the Fashion Editor of the Times newspaper.

1970's sterling vermeil necklace with high domed aventurine cabochon pendant. Piece was made by an unknown studio silversmith and member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG).
