Lavender Jade Pendant: Wait Until You See the Other Side, Certified Untreated
About the Item
This circa 1950s natural and untreated jadeite pendant is a showcase of lapidary skill and artistry. The pale violet and light green stone has been carved and pierced, depicting a regal bird poised with fruit and flowers on one side, lacy vines on the other. There truly is no "front" of this carved jade pendant because both sides are so impeccably rendered and each side is as fascinating as it is beautiful.
The jade measures 49.4mm x 33.80mm x 11.35mm and is attached to a hand-fabricated 14k yellow gold bail that is marked for metal fineness as 14K and 585. The creeping wire bail winds itself through the top of the jade, mimicking the lines of the stone itself. I can find no maker's mark. The pendant may have been created in Italy. Gump's of San Francisco sold many fine, unbranded jade pendants like this one throughout the 1950s and 1960s, though I would have no idea if that is the case here.
This is an exceedingly fine jade carving with excellent, light coloring and, because of the unique method of carving, high translucency.
It was photographed with a vintage gold-filled or low karat gold chain that I'll include. The pendant ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).
