This is an absolutely stunning and very rare early antique Victorian - Belle Epoque Shell Cameo Pendant Brooch Pin with an exquisite museum quality hand carved image of the Madonna with Child set in a gorgeous engraved 14 Karat Yellow Gold frame.
Cameos with two figures are very rare and the imagery of this cameo is highly unusual and desirable. The beautiful setting of the cameo is an engraved motif in 14 Karat Gold.
The cameo is of extraordinary beauty and the imagery is very rare. The diaphenous halos on the figures are absolutely gorgeous as are the drapes of the clothing. The faces of the Madonna and child are masterworks of cameo artistry. The wonderful cloud motif along the bottom is magical. The cameo can be worn as both a pendant and a brooch. The bale is an articulated folding bale that folds down to be invisible when worn as a brooch.
Cameo jewels are all the rage today and this is one of the most beautiful carved gems we have seen. The Madonna and Child is a romantic jewel of the utmost beauty and style. The cameo pendant dates to circa 1840-1900.
The pendant is 2 3/8 inches (6 cm) tall and is 1 3/4 inches (4.5 cm) wide.
The piece is 10mm deep not including the pin.
The pin is hallmarked 14k.
