A member of the tourmaline family, Rubellite is desired for its nuances of red. From a mellow pink to the most vivid pigeon blood red, rubellite is not only a mesmerizingly dazzling gemstone but it makes for one of the most wearable gems as well. Its 7 to 7.5 Mohs Scale rating makes it durable to stand the test of time and it is quite easy to care for as well. What makes a red tourmaline a rubellite has to do with the way the gem interacts with its surrounding light. In order for it to be considered a rubellite it most hold its color regardless of the lighting, be it natural or artificial. Like with most colored gemstones in the market, fewer inclusions do play a role in the value of the specimen at hand.
