"Maxine" Boulder Opal Pendant Necklace in 18 Karat Gold with Diamond Accents
About the Item
This one-of-a-kind showstopper by Eytan Brandes features two gorgeous and lively Australian boulder opals framed in gold and accented with natural brown diamonds.
The opals are from our good friends at Broken River Mining. Their Yaraka mine, named for the nearest town (population: 10) in the Queensland Outback, produces exceptionally graphic boulder opals with unusual blond potch. We purchased these two triangular stones from Broken River at a trade show a few years ago and they are great examples of Yaraka's surprising colors and Broken River's expert cutting and polishing. The top piece (Maxine's "head") has a large swath of deep blue, plus pinpoints of green, purple and yellow fire. Veins of underlying ironstone show throughout. The bottom piece has streaks of cornflower blue along with flashes of green and points of red, but the distinctive blond potch is much more prevalent.
Eytan set both pieces in 18 karat gold cast from hand-sculpted wax molds. He finished the gold with a satiny, nonreflective polish that emphasizes its rich color and sheen. Secured in the back with prongs, tendrils of gold (set with five sparkly full cut cognac diamonds) complete the job in front.
The pendant hangs on an 18 karat gold twisted rope chain with lobster clasp for a total length of 17"*
