About vitreuos enamel:
The inimitably luminous colours are literally created "in the fire": layer by layer, enamel is carefully fired in at 800 degrees Celsius. During guilloching, the finest wave patterns are engraved into the gold, creating a unique depth effect. Vitreous means made of glass: the ancient technique is almost forgotten today and Victor Mayer is perhaps the last manufac- tory to master it at the highest level.
About gold paillons:
Paillons are shaped emblems of gold foil. They are fused to a pre-fired enamel grounding and coated with clear enamels. This creates an illusion of chased metal inside the enamel. Paillons are made as small pre-shaped motifs, with a slight relief. Victor Mayer is one of the very few specialist workshops with suitable equipment and the expertise to make Paillons today.
