A timeless fusion of Roman history and modern craftsmanship, this pendant features a genuine silver denarius struck in the Roman Republic circa 119 BC, set in a hand-forged 18k yellow gold bezel.
The obverse of the coin depicts Janus, the Roman god of time, beginnings, and transitions, facing both forward and backward — a symbol of reflection and foresight. The reverse shows Roma, the personification of the Republic, crowning a military trophy, flanked by ancient arms, with inscriptions "ROMA" and "PHILI."
The coin has been carefully set in a handmade bezel of solid 18k gold, shaped to match the organic contour of the ancient coin. An interesting, authentic, silver denarius coin from the period of the Roman Republic in 79 BCE, featuring a griffin leaping, is set in a Steven Battelle ancient inspired handmade matte-finish textured bezel mount with 1.8mm VS1 diamond accent. The denarius was approximately the daily wage of a soldier in ancient Rome. This particular type of coin is known as a denarius serratus. The ragged edges of the coin are intentional (all coins of this type have them) to show that coin is pure silver. The minting of the coins was an annual office shared by 3 men, and they often placed the family name on the coins. This coin was minted by moneyer L.
