Regency Diamond Maltese Cross Pendant/Brooch

About the Item

A Regency diamond Maltese cross pendant/brooch, to the centre a cushion-shaped diamond estimated to weigh 1.4 carats, the openwork arms set throughout with a hundred and fifty-two old mine-cut diamonds estimated to weigh a further total of 9.1 carats, all to silver cut-down settings with yellow gold back, with later drop-down pendant loop and brooch pin with roller catch fitting, circa 1820, measuring approximately 4.6 x 4.6cm, gross weight 22.5 grams. A diamond Maltese cross in very good condition with a clasp as later addition. Unmarked tested as silver and 18ct gold. This superb diamond Maltese cross pendant/brooch is set throughout with over 10 carats of dazzling old-cut diamonds. The central diamond scintillates wonderfully, and the surrounding diamonds make this detailed piece eye-catching and luxurious. This piece can be worn as either a brooch or a pendant and was made in around 1820. It comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and would look stunning pinned to an evening gown or strung from a velvet ribbon.
