Rock Crystal Pendant Necklaces

This fine example of a Victorian period reverse carved and painted "Essex Crystal" Dog set in 18K gold was found in London. Carved and painted with charm, detail and sensitivity, I believe the dog portrayed is a Mastiff sporting his period collar. Interestingly, the piece is beautifully monogrammed on the reverse - but I am not sure how it was originally worn. At some time in the past, an old gold bar pin was glued to the back (mostly obscuring the hand engraved initials) which I was able to remove. (I'm still working on carefully removing the old, dried glue that remains) No indication of other fittings are present, so I am offering this gorgeous Dog either converted into a pendant or as it is now, with no fittings. OR, if you would like have a custom ring or brooch made, I am happy to discuss options and additional costs for your desired design. Including the beautiful gold bezel with twisted wire and beaded border, the substantial Essex Crystal measures approximately 7/8 of an inch in diameter (21.6 mm). The rise to the top of the polished rock crystal is a little over 5/16 of an inch or 9.66 mm. On my scale, the weight is 6.94 grams. Both the reverse painting and the rock crystal remain in very good to excellent condition. It's hard to capture the dimensionality of the dog in photos, especially with reflections - he/she has great presence and really seems to "pop out" of the background when viewed in person. A stunning, rare and important antique, pools of light rock crystal locket pendant. Beautiful high polished smooth rock crystal cabochons each set into a rich 15kt yellow gold frame, the front of the locket has a hand engraved fancy letter B. This is an important mourning locket, containing a lock of hair once belonging to the great Lord Byron, the B of the locket standing for Byron. This piece comes with history and provenance. The hair within the locket originally came from his half sister (and also lover!) Mrs Leigh, Augusta Leigh (née Byron) (1783-1851) whom had the hair upon lord Byron's death and would have had the locket commissioned for this in the Victorian era. Upon the death of Augusta the locket was given to Lucy, Lady Byron (1824-1912) by Mr E Upton, who recieved it from Augusta. From there it was handed down by descent at Thrumpton Hall Nottinghamshire. The locket comes with a Handwritten note by Lucy, Lady Byron and is signed with her initials.
