About the Item

Very rare pendant locket from the Victorian Era. Exceptional piece, created in England during the Victorian period, back in the 1870. This important pendant locket has been made up with an extremely unusual geometric pattern of a lattice. It was crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats and embellished with applications of hot black enamel. Fitted on top with a movable bale and a hinged push oval lid. This piece retain the original glass from the period and in one side retain the original cut silhouette picture in negative and positive of the loved young man. It is in great condition with all parts in perfect functions. Silhouettes portraits were extremely popular in the 19th century during the Victorian era as a less expensive alternative to painted portraits. They were most commonly made by carefully cutting black card to match the profile of the sitter then mounting the finished image onto a light background. These silhouettes were then displayed in homes or set into jewelry. This pendant is decorated with a very unusual pattern for this period. Composed of a geometric design of intertwined loops with diamond gems set at the meeting points. Diamonds: Mount around and in front, with 58 Calibrated European rose cut diamonds, 4.06 carats, white colorless F/G color, VS/SI clarity. Birthstone: Diamonds, for the month of April. Weight: 18.5 Grams, (12.08 Dwt). Measurements: 29 mm by 42 mm (1.14 x 1.65 Inches). Hallmarks: No marks, tested for 18kt gold. Victorian Jewelry Victorian jewelry originated in England.
