Victorian Ruby Diamond and Enamel Chain Slider
About the Item
Here we have a stunning creation taken from the Victorian period. This antique piece has been crafted from silver into an extravagant slider. The term is used for bracelets consisting of slides on two or more chains. Victorian sliders were not originally used as links in bracelets but as slides on watch chains. As fashion changed and pocket watches were replaced by wristwatches the sliders were removed from the chains and strung on bracelets and today are even worn as pendants. In this case, the slider has been masterfully crafted into the shape of two opposing old cut diamond set serpents with tiny cabochon rubies for eyes. These chunky stones make for a scintillating appearance which heightened by a rich navy blue enamel centre which is topped by matching diamond set initials P.J.P.
