Antique Silver Powder Box Compact box Enamel Painting Genre Scene Silver Gilt

About the Item

This exceptional quality powder compact was imported by H C Freedman Ltd of Birmingham in 1914. The box is impressed on the inside with the makers mark, the date letter for 1914, 925 for sterling silver and the British import mark. The sterling silver box is decorated on the sides and the reverse with an engine turned pattern. The lid of the compact features an extraordinary enamel genre painting of outstanding quality. The peaceful genre scene shows a family that has stopped for a rest in a forest clearing. While the father is busy heating something over a fire, the mother is attending to a little child, an older child is sleeping next to a dog.
