French 1819-1838 Baroque Louis XV Snuff Box Carved Agate And Chiseled 18Kt Gold

French snuff box in agate and gold. Exceptional and very rare oval snuff box, created in Paris France during the second monarchic restoration period, between the 1818 and 1838. This beautiful box was designed in the baroque and Louis XV style, depicting the mythological scene of Venus and cupid holding an arrow. It was carefully crafted with two pieces carved from translucent gray-brownish agate and decorated with sculpted chiseled and repousse parts in yellow gold of 18 karats. Fitted with a hinged lid and embellished with one rose cut diamond. The scene represents the Greek-Roman mythological scene of Venus seated in her seashell chariot pulling back Cupid to take away his arrow. In ancient Greece Cupid was known as Eros, the young son of Aphrodite the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. For the Romans, Cupid is the god of love, son of Venus and Mars, god of war. Cupid was an assistant to his mother Venus, he directed the primordial force of love and brought it to mortals Weight: Total 100.45 Grams, (64.39 Dwt). Measurements: 65 mm by 53 mm by 33 mm (2.56 x 2.09 x 1.31 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped two times with ancient French marks; the Zeus head mark inside an oval mark for the assay and warranty of the 750/.999 finesse. Note: The gold assay warranty marks depicted in this box was in use only between the 1818 and 1838 Note: Snuff boxes were used for containing snuff, a mixture of ground tobacco and scented oils, and were very popular in the 18th century when snuff-taking was fashionable. Highly decorated and valuable objects, they became collectors' items in the 19th century Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry pouch. Condition: The overall condition of this snuff box is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold, with no dents or restorations.     An objet de Vertu designed by Roberto Legnazzi. An incredible over sized piece, created in Alessandria Italy at the jewelry atelier of Roberto Legnazzi, back in the 1970's. This is a fabulous objet de vertu piece to be exhibited in any desk or place. Has been carefully crafted with strong orientalism patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish. It is embellished with a nice selection of calibrated white colorless diamonds and is mount with an incredible extra large piece of natural coral, carved with Japanese motifs and the figure of a standing Quan Yin. The blade is made in the shape of a samurai katana sword. Diamonds: Mount in a flush setting, with 60 round brilliant cut diamonds, 1.82 carats, white colorless E/F color, VS-2 Clarity. Coral: Mount on top, with 1 piece of coral, carved with orientalism motifs. Onyx: Accented with, 1 oval double cabochon cut carved from black onyx. Weight: 334.95 Grams, (214.72 Dwt). Measurements: 454.66 mm by 142.75 mm (17.90 x 5.62 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark associated to Roberto Legnazzi, the Italian mark for the gold assay signed, "18KT .750 *1932AL".
