Antique Micro Rug / Tapestry Pattern Beaded Bag with an Enameled Marcasite Frame

About the Item

A very fine antique beaded bag. With micro beading and a exuberant variant of a tapestry or carpet pattern. Both sides are fully beaded in the same pattern that is reminiscent of Bakhtiari Chesti design Persian rugs which display a grid of highly stylized motifs of plants and animals surrounded by a floral or leafy border - here reimagined with an Art Nouveau twist similar to the design of the Vienna Secessionist and Wiener Werkstätte bags of the early 20th century. Mounted in a brown enameled stainless steel frame that has a black enameled cabochon and marcasite clasp, a long beaded strap, and a replaced pink interior (from the 1960s or 1970s). Simply a wonderful beaded bag! Date: Early 20th Century: Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. The bead work is very much intact with 97%+ of the beads in place. There is some loss to the tasseled fringe and a very little bit of loss and wear in the section just below the frames hinge. The clasp is missing one marcasite and seals more tightly shut on one end than the other. There are missing beads along a small length of the strap. There are very fine and light scratches here and there and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Height: ca. 10 in. (without fringe) Width: ca. 7 1/2 in. Depth: ca. 1/2 in. Height with fringe: ca. 12 in. Handle length: ca. 20 in. Items purchased from this dealer must delight you. Purchases may be returned for any reason for a period of 7 days.
