About the Item

This Ruyi carving is finely worked from natural light green and white nephrite jade, intricately depicting three narrative scenes of the Longevity Couple, a traditional motif symbolizing long life and happiness. The couple is portrayed sailing on a boat through heavenly scenery, walking in a forest accompanied by a pair of cranes—emblems of longevity, and finally encountering the fair child in worship, representing abundance and blessing. Together, these episodes form a vivid and auspicious tableau, imbued with rich symbolism and exceptional artistic detail. The composition is further enhanced by its overall Ruyi shape, itself a symbol of luck, peace, and safety, adding layers of cultural meaning to the piece. In China, nephrite has long been classified and celebrated according to its color, and it remains the dream of jade collectors worldwide. The present piece measures approximately 36.60 × 13.60 × 5.50 cm and weighs about 1.5 kg. It is accompanied by a GIA Report, confirming that the material is natural nephrite jade.
