A fragment of eternity, this antique red porphyry foot embodies the strength and sophistication of classical sculpture. It retains echoes of the Grand Tour, when cultured travelers would make it a treasured souvenir to evoke the aura of Rome and its ruins. The regal color of porphyry, among the most coveted in imperial art, and the delicate anatomical rendering invite contemplation of the dialogue between material and history.
Sculptural fragment depicting a foot, made of ancient red porphyry, a favorite material in imperial Roman sculpture because of its hardness and intense color, a symbol of power and immortality. The piece, recalls the neoclassical taste and interest in antiquity typical of the eighteenth-nineteenth century Grand Tour, when fragments of antiquities were collected valued and imitated as evidence of past civilizations. Antonietta De Marchi
Antonietta De Marchi è nata e vive a Roma. Ha studiato presso l'Accademia di Arti Orafe di Roma e successivamente alla RUFA (Rome University of Fine Arts), dove si è specializzata in scultura e installazione. Dal 2012 ha deciso di rendere il suo lavoro disponibile all'Ufficio Liturgico Vaticano. Tra le sue numerose creazioni, spicca l'anello "Piscatorio" realizzato per Papa Francesco, oggi conservato nel "Tesoro della Cappella Sistina". La sua produzione comprende anche le tre grandi anfore monumentali per la Basilica Vaticana di San Pietro, impiegate dal Papa durante la celebrazione del rito pasquale. Inoltre, Antonietta ha restaurato uno dei gioielli più preziosi custoditi in Vaticano: la Tiara di Papa Pio IX, donata nel 1854 dalla Regina Isabella di Spagna.
