About the Item
A beautiful Pushkin-era silver icon depicting the Tikvin Mother of God, covered with a silver-gilt oklad, with repoussé garments, veil and applied haloes of sunburst design. The Christ child seated to the Virgin’s left, his hand raised in blessing, within raised beaded border. Fully painted underneath silver.
The silver oklad or cover marked Moscow, 1837, 84 for the Russian silver standard, with maker’s initials EA for Egor Antipev, and assaymasters initials AK for Andrei Kovalsky (active 1821-56). Fully stamped on the bottom rim and halo.
