Old Signed Carved Nephrite Jade German / Russian Hippopotamus Figure
Located in Philadelphia, PA
A very fine carved Nephrite Jade hippopotamus figurine. Likely the work of the German lapidary carvers in Idar Oberstein (or possibly Russian in origin). The feet of the hippo have numbered inscription or signature. Simply a great carving! Date: 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. There are a few round concussion marks here and there, loss to one ear, a small fracture in one nostril (likely from the carving), some edge wear, and some very fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age Maker: Possibly from Idar Oberstein (or one of the Russian houses...

Faberge Diamond-Set Egg Pendant in the Form of an Elephant
Located in London, GB
A Fabergé diamond set miniature egg pendant in the form of an elephant realistically modelled in standing position with its trunk curving-up, all set throughout with rose-cut diamonds, the back decorated with a rose-gold saddle cloth with tassel finials set on the top with a cabochon-cut sapphire, all mounted in silver and rose-gold, bearing gold marks for 56 zolotniks and workmaster’s mark for Mikhail Perkhin, circa 1898-1903, measuring approximately 2.5 x 1.2cm, gross weight 6.1 grams. Mikhail Perkhin’s workshop oversaw about half of the fifty-two Imperial Easter Eggs. An Elephant Automation was made as the ‘surprise’ for the Diamond Trellis Egg by Perkhin in 1892, and it is now part of The Royal Collection Trust. This charming and unusual little treasure was made by Fabergé and comes from the Fabergé collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Fabergé was established in St Petersburg in 1842, and by the late nineteenth century, was Russia’s largest and most well-known jewellery house. The house has become known for their royal commissions and their close ties to the family of Tsar Nicholas II. This pendant bears the marks for Fabergé Workmaster Mikhail Perkhin. Mikhail Perkhin was a senior Fabergé Workmaster and is best remembered for the wedding clock he made for the marriage of Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra. This pendant is in the shape of an elephant, encrusted throughout with diamonds and featuring a cabochon-cut sapphire on its saddle. The pendant loop is cleverly set through the curled trunk of the elephant. This wonderful piece is a fabulous example of true Fabergé craftsmanship. This Faberge pendant...
