Abstract Candle Holder Jorma Laine Turun Hopea Finland 7pcs. Brass
Located in Orimattila, FI
Abstract Candle holder Jorma Laine Turun Hopea Finland 7pcs. Very special Candlesticks. Hard to find these anywhere anymore. Jorma Laine (1930-2002) was a Finnish jewelry designer, whose work in bronze and silver (more seldom gold) is easily recognizable. He developed a style of his own, very modernistic and often abstract, throughout the 60’s and 70’s. He was born on the 10th of July 1930, as the only son to his working class parents. Already at a young age he was gifted and spent most of his time drawing. After primary school, he attended the renowned art college Turun Piirustuskoulu (Turku Art School). During his illustrious career, he had his own company, Silver-Laine, but is perhaps best known for the designs he did for Turun Hopea. He also designed silver jewelry for Kultateollisuus. Later on, after a successful career in jewelry design, he retired to his cabin in the forest where he led a hermitlike life until his death by heart attack on the 27th of December 2002, 72 years old. Jorma Laine was during the 1960s and 1970s one of the foremost jewellery designers who created his own field within Finnish jewellery with his unique designs. Laine's jewellery can be perceived as stories about nature and its creatures and the human and different cultures. Laine graduated from Suomen Kultasepät Oy's (later Kultateollisuus) private goldsmith school in Turku in 1950 and worked for the firm until the mid-1950s, after which he started working for Kultasepät Salovaara in Turku. 1963 Laine returned to Kultateollisuus as its chief designer and worked there until 1969. During this period Laine founded his own firm and workshop Lai-For Koru. In 1972 Laine moved over to Turun Hopea as their chief designer and worked there until his retirement in 1985. Nature and works of art greatly inspired laine. He was especially fascinated by South and Central American works of art, cave paintings and the décor on Sami hand drums...

Wendy Brandes 18K Yellow Gold Snake Tiara with South Sea Pearl, Diamonds, Rubies
By Wendy Brandes
Located in New York, NY
Two twisting 18K yellow gold and diamond snakes kiss in the center of this darkly romantic serpentine tiara, forming a heart that embraces a large, baroque South Sea pearl. In creating this piece, Wendy paid as much attention to function as to form: the tiara is engineered with space for hair pins that will secure it for a full day of celebration. This wearable art was created in New York City by our top-notch goldsmiths. The design is the latest addition to Wendy's snake-themed Queen of Scots Collection. That motif was inspired by Mary Queen of Scots, cousin to Elizabeth I. Elizabeth's advisors referred to Mary as "the bosom serpent" -- close to the queen of England, and dangerous. More details below: 18K yellow gold totaling 2.3 oz, satin finish. 18K blackened rose gold. 12.8 x 14.3 mm South Sea Pearl. 76 white diamonds, totaling 1/2 carat. 9 points of rubies. Made in New York City. One-of-a-kind. Worn by Victoria's Secret Angel and supermodel Elsa Hosk...
