    This antique 19th-century seal fob/pendant, crafted from 15kt. yellow gold features a Carnelian intaglio depicting what is possibly the crest of the Carmichael family or clan, along with the French phrase 'Toujours Prest,' which translates to 'Always Ready' in English. Created in England during the 1870s, this piece showcases exceptional artistry and meticulous attention to detail. Its authenticity is confirmed through X-ray analysis, adding an extra layer of assurance to its value. Dimensions: Length x Width x Height: 2.4 x 2.1 x 3.8 cm Weight: 22.9 grams Condition: This pre-owned item shows age-related wear but is in good overall condition, as depicted in the accompanying pictures. The motto 'Toujours Prêt' is recognized in standard British heraldic sources as belonging to several families. Originally a war cry or slogan, mottoes began appearing with coats of arms in the 14th and 15th centuries, although they weren't commonly used until the 17th century. It's important to note that mottoes are often an optional component of a coat of arms and can be added or changed at will. The Carmichael surname traces back to a barony in Lanarkshire, granted to the Douglas Family by Robert the Bruce in 1321. Prior to this, Robert de Carmitely held lordship in Cleghorn around 1221, and William de Creimechel witnessed a charter in 1225. Sir John de Carmychell held a charter for the lands of Carmychell between 1374 and 1384 from William, Earl of Douglas.
