Victorian Sterling Silver Vinaigrette/Scent Bottle
About the Item
Crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Sampson Mordan & Co. is this Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Vinaigrette/Scent Bottle, Circa 1870-71. The horn-shaped vinaigrette scent bottle is on a sterling chatelaine, the horn is modeled in the form of a curved hunting horn. There are hallmarks for London, Sterling, Sampson Mordan and the year 1870-71. The vinaigrette lid and pin has the letters CSB monogrammed. The 'bell' of the horn is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover, which when opened reveals the vinaigrette with the original hinged grille and gilt interior. The gilded grille is ornamented with a bright cut engraved and pierced decorated bordered scroll and leaf design. Please see photos for all hallmarks and markings. The piece measures 4.21" width (horn - "mouthpiece" to "bell") x 3.70" tall (including pin) x 1.43" deep. The combination vinaigrette/scent bottle 77.3 grams.
