About the Item

This elegant pair of clasps are designed as peacocks with their fan. The peacocks are made out of Pinchbeck and mounted in metal clasps with a rose gold gilding. The peacocks's fans are set with 14 purple pastes each. Pinchbeck is an alloy of copper and zink created to resemble gold. It was invented in the early years of the 18th century by Christopher Pinchbeck (1670-1832), a watchmaker and inventor of music machines. The alloy did not change its colour and was employed in the creation of jewellery up until the 1830`s by Christopher Pinchbeck and his descendants.
