Antique Head Ornament Étoile De Digne Star Shaped Fossils Silver
About the Item
This unusual and rare highly collectible hair ornament is made out of nine star shaped fossils, so called 'Étoiles de Digne'. These fossils are found, shaped as stars, in the rocks near Digne, a town in the French département Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. They are set in silver and are part of a beautifully engraved and chisselle hairornament. Within a raised border we see nine flowers with star shaped centers alternating with eight lozenge shaped ornaments.
