This large hat-dress pin has been crafted with chinoiserie patterns in solid .800/.999 silver and mounted on top with a decorative element carved from natural Nephrite jadeite jade. The carving depicts the flying figure of a mythological dragon. In Chinese culture, excellent and outstanding people are compared to a dragon, while incapable people with no achievements are compared to other, disesteemed creatures, such as a worm. A number of Chinese proverbs and idioms feature references to a dragon, such as "hoping one's child will become a dragon". Has a total weight of 13.2 Grams and a lenght of 7 Inches (17.78 Cm). The jade carving has a measurements of 35 mm by 40mm by 3 mm (1.38 x 1.57 x 0.11 Inches). Note: The piece of carved jade displayed...

14k Gold and 22k Gold Nugget Crescent Moon Pendant
Located in Venice, CA
This crescent moon pendant is from the Alaskan Gold Rush era. The moon is a thin sliver, either a waxing or waning crescent in its moon cycle. On the front of the pendant are pieces of 22k Alaskan gold, which have been carefully soldered on top of a crescent moon 14k gold cutout. The encrusted gold nuggets create a beautiful visual texture. A lovely patina shadows the crevices of the gold, drawing the eye to the unique shape of each nugget. In the center of the pendant is a sliver of fossilized walrus tusk, which was added when the piece was created circa 1910. The sliver of tusk is dimensional, polished into a knife-edge shape, and its colors compliment the pendant’s gold. “Native Gold...

David Andersen 1910 Art Nouveau Enameled Guilloche Snuff Box In .925 Sterling
Located in Miami, FL
A guilloche enameled pill box designed by David Andersen. Extremely rare early 20th century enamel pill-box, created in Norway during the late Edwardian and art nouveau period at the workshop of David Andersen, circa 1910. This beautiful box was carefully crafted with impeccable details in solid .925/.999 standard silver with gilded interiors finish. Made of rectangular form with curved edges and fitted with a five barrels hinged lid, that can be raised by a simple thumbpiece. Engine turned guilloche decoration topped with applications of translucent silvered-white and light purple enamels and finally embellished with tiny flowers motifs decorations in high relief. Weight: 59.40 Grams, (38.08 Dwt). Measurements: 65 mm by 38 mm and a height of 13 mm (2.56 x 1.50 x 0.51 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with French and Norwegian marks, the maker's mark associated to David Andersen inside a cartouche, the mark for the assay of the silver S .925 and stamped twice with the French import mark of the swan, for importation. Very interesting exports and imports marks. Note: The hallmark of a swan facing to the left inside an oval (Osprey-124), was introduced in 1893 for small silver items imported into France. The silver product need to have at least a standard assay of .800/999 or over. The swan mark indicates that the item was produced in a non-treaty country and served as an import identification. The swan mark used until 1970. David Andersen David Andersen was born in 1843 in Østre Toten, Innlandet to Anders Svendsen and Anne Margrethe Gulbrandsdatter, and was the father of goldsmith Arthur David-Andersen. He was one of the most important Norwegian goldsmiths. From 1859 he was in apprenticeship with the jeweler Jacob Tostrup in Christiania (now called Oslo). He spent several periods abroad, in Berlin, Stockholm, Paris and London. During his stay in London he also imported Norwegian filigree works to the United Kingdom. He established his own goldsmith workshop in Christiania 1876, which eventually became a leading company in the goldsmith industry in Norway. A significant part of his filigree works was exported to Great Britain. As of 1899 his company employed 92 men...

Longines Silver & Niello Watch from 1915 Dial by Stern Freres Matching Chain
Located in Long Beach, CA
FACTORY / HOUSE: Longines Watch Company STYLE / REFERENCE: Open Faced Art Deco Pocket Watch METAL / MATERIAL: Silver and Niello CIRCA / YEAR: 1915 DIMENSIONS / SIZE: Diameter 45mm MOVEMENT / CALIBER: Manual Winding / 17 Jewels DIAL / HANDS: Original Silvered with Kiln Fired Enamel Print / Blued Steel Breguet Hands ATTACHMENT / LENGTH: Supplied with Pocket Watch Chain WARRANTY: 18 months on the movement LIFETIME SERVICE COMMITMENT This is a great looking dress watch by the iconic house. The case is done in Sterling Silver and engraved and filled with Niello. Niello is an ancient process no longer done today, The dial is done in Sterling Silver with Kiln Fired Enamel Print by Stern Freres. Stern was house that bought Patek Philippe when it went bankrupt in the 1930s. Stern Still owns Patek Philippe today. You will likely never see another example of this watch again. We have just serviced it and it keeps dependable time as well. The company was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz, a Swiss watchmaker. He was also the brother of renowned biologist Louis Agassiz. Agassiz started the company with two partners, lawyers Henri Raiguel and Florian Morel. The company's original name was Raiguel Jeune & Cie. In 1846, Raigeul and Morel retired from the watch industry, leaving Agassiz as sole company head. Several years later, Agassiz brought in his bright, enterprising nephew, trained economist Ernest Francillon, into the business. Francillon was the mastermind behind several impressive innovations that would distinguish the company from its competitors. In 1880, Francillon trademarked the Longines name and its winged hourglass logo. The winged hourglass is a symbol of precision and timekeeping, and it has become one of the most recognizable logos in the watch industry. In 1912, Longines became the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games. The company has held this position ever since, and it has been involved in every Olympic Games since then. Longines has also been the official timekeeper of many other major sporting events, including the World Championships in Athletics, the Formula One World Championship, and the America's Cup. In 1931, Longines invented the Lindbergh Hour Angle watch. This watch was designed specifically for Charles Lindbergh, the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The watch featured a special bezel that allowed Lindbergh to calculate his longitude. In my own personal collection, I have the Longines Caliber 13 ZN Chronograph that Commander Richard Byrd took to Antarctica in 1928. It was purchased at the time from Abercrombie and Fitch in New York along with all the other equipment used on the expedition, it still runs well and keeps good, even after 100 years. In the 1980’s I was privileged to view their “collection” in their vaults. It was not open to the public, but a contact arranged it. There were examples of all the finest pocket and wristwatches they had ever produced. This included all the pieces that had received navigational and chronometer ratings. They were not even arranged for presentation; they were merely in drawers. I was shown the collection by their renowned “springer.” I have forgotten his name, but he was responsible for adjusting the watches to win the chronometer ratings. He was probably 80 years old at the time. Interestingly but not surprisingly he could only speak to me about adjusting the hairspring but not about the watch in general. This is something that is not uncommon in the watch world. A craftsman will only know about the part of the watch that they are responsible for. When I produced my own watch in Geneva many years ago, I realized that the dial maker and case maker and other associated craftsmen knew almost nothing about what each other did. This seemed odd to me, but it is that way. Lastly, our family jewelry store in Los Angeles was an official Longines retailer so I can speak from personal experience that Longines is an exceptional watch company regarding their service and dependability. They are also famous for the “Ultra Chron...

Austrian 1915 Art Nouveau Egyptian Revival Plique à Jour Winged Scarab Brooch
Located in Miami, FL
Austrian Egyptian revival Plique à Jour winged Scarab brooch An exceptional elongated brooch, created in Austria during the art nouveau period, back in the 1915. This magnifique piece has been carefully crafted with the egyptian revival style, in solid .900/.999 silver with brushed finish. The wings are accented with applications of the difficult technique of Plique à Jour in translucent yellow-green and bluish-gray enamels. Fitted at the reverse with a hinged horizontal bar with a security lock. The figure represent the Egyptian sacred scarab with open feathers wings, of the god Khepri. Quartz Stones: Mount in bezel settings, with 2 round cut of blue quartz. Opal: Mount in a bezel setting, with 1 oval cabochon cut of a natural opal of about 2.75 carats. Weight: 17.95 Grams, (11.50 Dwt). Measurements: 108 mm by 26 mm (4.25 x 1.02 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark inside a circle, the mark for the assay of the silver and signed, "FL DEPOSE STERLING .900". Egyptian Winged Scarab This kind of beetle was highly symbolic to ancient Egyptians, it represented rebirth and renewal. They believed that the sun was pushed across the sky every day by a giant scarab, the god Khepri. In real life, the scarab beetle lays its eggs in a ball of dung and rolls the ball ahead of it wherever it goes. Originated in Ancient Egypt. A scarab is shaped like a dung beetle. There is a head, wing case, and legs. It is sometimes rounded and sometimes flat. The scarab was associated with the god Khepri who was the god or rebirth, creation, and the sun. Dung beetles were the earthly personification of Khepri as they would lay their eggs in balls of dung and then roll the dung balls all around until the eggs hatched. Early hieroglyphics depict Khepri as a scarab holding up the sun. There were hundreds of memorial scarabs created to memorialize Amenhotep III’s deeds. These included the bull hunt scarab which symbolizes strength and victory over chaos. Later, around 2000 BCE the scarab was used in jewelry and as seals. The amulets were worn as protection against the dangers of this world and the afterlife. The scarab represented the sun god Ra that rolled across the sky each day. Between the 16th and 11th- century heart scarab...
