Circa 1860s, 18k, Castellani, Italy. This Bulla is an exquisite example of the archeological revival style by Castellani. Adorned with rope work, granulation, and intricate decorations in a 9 box panel, it has the word Light on one side and Life on the other. The fine workmanship is emblematic of the detailed quality Castellani was renowned for. Notes: The Bulla was a protective amulet or pendant commonly worn by boys in ancient Rome, then reserved for special occasions as adults.
