Diamond Halo Ring in 14K Gold & Silver - Old Mine and Rose Cut Diamonds with Box

About the Item

A very charming Late Georgian/early Victorian style Diamond Halo Ring - this ring is almost certainly vintage and made in Europe with antique diamonds. The style and detail is wonderful, despite it not being all antique. It will arrive in a period box that fits it beautifully. Crafted of yellow gold testing between 14K and 18K, with silver settings, the ring features 15 antique diamonds: a super fiery cushion cut old mine cut diamond center, surrounded by sparkly old rose cut diamonds. Just as special, the band features a wonderful foliate design. I estimate the total carat weight to be approximately .55 carats, or perhaps slightly more. Held in a charming silver buttercup style setting with 6 prongs is a very bright and lively old mine cut diamond, measuring approximately 4 x 3.5 mm and estimated to weigh approximately .24 carats or so. It has all the fire and brilliance I look for in antique diamonds and a great presence with old world charm. Quite white to the naked eye, it shows a bit of warmth under magnification as many antique diamonds do. I would judge it to be in the I-J-K range of color, though it faces up more white. Completely eye-clean, under magnification I see one clear inclusion in one corner, and a little roughness to its girdle which remains from when it was hand cut. It's really a beautiful old diamond and in very good condition. Its prongs show some expected wear but are holding the diamond securely for now. I do recommend having the prongs checked regularly and re-tipped as needed, as with all stone set jewelry. Fourteen twinkling rose cut diamonds create the halo around the center stone, each measuring an average of approximately 2 mm in size. These are good quality, chunky rose cuts in very good condition. (though I am still working at getting them clean - they have open backed settings which is really nice, but their backs are a little hard to access when cleaning by hand, so some grunge is still present) I estimate their total carat weight to be approximately .31 carats. Their settings also show some expected wear and I recommend having re-tipping done soon by a bench jeweler experienced with vintage/antique jewelry. Beautiful and sparkly on the hand, the face of the ring measures approximately 14 mm x 13.5 mm, including the very upper shoulders. The rise off the finger is approximately 5 mm at its highest point. The lovely shoulder design flows right into the swirling foliate/floral design of the band. At their widest, the shoulders measure approximately 8.6 mm, tapering gradually into the band which measures approximately 2.4 mm at its narrowest - the very back of the band. With careful scrutiny and magnification, I can see the band was once sized in the past, and done very nicely, indeed. A worn European mark for 14K gold remains inside ("585"); the finished weight on my scale is a nice 4.12 grams. Size 5 on my sizing mandrel, the ring is currently fitting me slightly under a size 6. The ring can be carefully sized within reason (if you don't mind interrupting the foliate pattern of the band) by a good bench jeweler experienced with estate/antique jewelry. To size it up, I would expect to have a small plain, polished gold area added at the very back of the band.
