Ico & the Bird Fine Jewelry
Ico & the Bird Fine Jewelry was founded in 2020 by Juliana Domenico (Ico) Carr. Carr drew inspiration for her jewelry design from her world travels and early childhood memories in Brazil, playing with her mother’s jewelry box and arranging her mother’s collection of loose aquamarine gemstones into patterns.
While Carr was formally educated in geology, she also has a deep background in the arts. An accomplished pianist, ballerina and actress, she has a love of creating and storytelling that is part of what drew her to designing fine jewelry.
In 2018, Carr visited Myanmar and partnered with Turquoise Mountain to create the first product line for Ico & the Bird. Inspired by the Burmese zodiac, Ico & the Bird launched a series of artisan Burmese charms and pendants made in 18-karat gold featuring the eight animal signs of the zodiac. Turquoise Mountain-supported craftspeople manage the production of these timeless and luxurious fine jewelry designs.
Sustainability and ethical trading are part of the core company policies at Ico & the Bird's boutique in Los Angeles, California. Each gemstone is curated and tracked from mine to market to ensure authenticity and that its origins remain conflict-free. In an industry where waste materials are a major problem, Ico & the Bird insists on a reduction of energy use and recycling as critical steps in production. Every lapidary that reproduces Ico & the Bird designs is employed using global fair trade practices that protect labor standards, health and safety.

- GCS Certified 6.25 Carat Ceylon Sapphire and 3.75 Carat Diamond Cocktail RingLocated in Jesmond, Newcastle Upon TyneA stunning, fine and impressive 6.25 carat Ceylon sapphire and 3.75 carat diamond, platinum dress ring; part of our diverse antique jewelry collections. This stunning antique sapphire dress ring has been crafted in platinum. The pierced decorated, cluster arrangement displays a stunning feature 6.25Ct cushion cut Ceylon* sapphire, bezel set in relief to the center of the design. The sapphire is encompassed with eighteen impressive individually claw set Old European round cut diamonds. The outer border of the surrounding setting is embellished with a further twenty claw set Old European cut diamonds, held within a scalloped edged design. The pierced scroll decorated, elevated ring shoulders blend with the main setting and meld with the plain ring shank at a subtle collared design. The outer surface of the shank is hallmarked with the Portuguese mark for platinum (seagull); this variation of mark denotes the piece was assayed in Lisbon. This stunning cluster ring is supplied with a sapphire report card and certificate supplied by the Gemmological Certification Services, London**, in addition to a diamond grading report card for the supporting diamonds. NOTES: * Ceylon sapphires (mined only in Sri Lanka) are known for their unique color, ranging from very pale blue to vibrant almost electric blue. The colors noted within Ceylon sapphires occur naturally and do not tend to be heat treated, the most sought after known as the cornflower blue. ** This documentation accredits the blue sapphire originating in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and certifies that the gemstone shows no indications of heating; non-heated sapphires are a scarcity. Images do not always reflect the true color and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual color and showcases each stone.
