1.9ct Art Deco No Heat Sapphire Ring

About the Item

A very stylish antique sapphire ring from the Art Deco era. A square centerpiece centering a oval cut sapphire estimated to weigh approx. 1.9ct. The sapphire shows no indications of heat treatment and displays a deep blue high saturation and high transparency. The sapphire is elongated by four calibre cut natural sapphires at each corners and 12 small diamonds. On each side is one additional diamond topping of the yellow gold shank. Hallmarked for 18K gold and possibly a French eagle. The ring I clearly early 20th century. Width at head 14x12mm, estimated weight of principal sapphire 1.9ct no heat, 3.4gram, 18K gold, size us 7 Against the backdrop of the "Roaring Twenties", and with the US and Europe recovering from the horrors of "The Great War", a new lust for life – and, of course, jewelry – was born. The Art Deco style originated in Paris, received its name from “the Exposition International des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes”, held in Paris in 1925,. Art Deco works are symmetrical, geometric, streamlined, unvaried repetition of elements and often simple as a stark contrast to the flowing lines of Art Nouveau. The characteristic features of Art Deco reflect admiration for the modernity of the machine and for the inherent design qualities of machine-made objects. The exciting new archeological discoveries in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt, primarily the tomb of Tutankhamun, influenced design motifs during this period. Notable jewelers and jewelry houses working during this period adapted Egyptian influences into their designs and popularized them around the world. Here is a sapphire sun beaming with pride. The stylized sun being a recurring motif of the period. The jeweler here using calibré-cut precious sapphires to accent and enhance the geometric outline of the design. A complex piece that reflects the modern and streamlined spirit of the era.
