2.5 Carat Diamond Ballerina Ring with 1.78 Carat Ruby in 18 Karat White Gold
About the Item
This classic ballerina ring -- with baguettes of various sizes forming a "skirt" at different elevations -- was originally set with a diamond, but we decided to set it with something more wearable and contemporary -- a maroon ruby -- nearly opaque and completely saturated with rich color.
The 1.78 carat mixed cut ruby, from Mozambique (heat-treated but not filled) has a shallow crown, so that it appears almost flat.
The ruby is surrounded by a 1/2 carat of round stones - a diamond halo of 14 round, full-cut stones that we rate at G-H color and VS2-SI1 clarity.
The 32 baguettes - we estimate 2 carats worth - are all tapered, ranging from 3mm and 4mm in length. We rate the baguettes at H color and VS1-2 clarity.
All stones are securely prong-set. At least two of the baguettes appear to be replacements.
The ring, probably made in the 1960s or early 1970s (there are no maker's marks to offer clues) is of sturdy construction in 18 karat white gold with split shoulders and a carinated shank.
According to the mandrel, this ring is a size 6.5, but it fits a bit bigger (almost a 7) because there is some wiggle room behind the ring's face. Resizing is complimentary for full-price buyers and negotiable otherwise.
