Jade & Pearl Ring Certified Untreated

About the Item

A large oval cabochon of translucent seafoam green jadeite jade is surrounded by 16 luminous natural pearls in this ever-stylish 14K white gold halo ring from the early 1950s. The jade stone is natural and untreated and displays a high degree of translucency. Which is why this jade ring looks spectacular whether it is in direct sunshine, or just barely illuminated by the waning light of a nearby window. The luminous jade stone changes its appearance throughout the day, as the light changes. The jade cabochon measures 14.5mm x 9.19mm Seafoam green was pointedly on-trend in the 1950s when this ring was hand-fabricated. The pearls surrounding the jade are at least partially drilled —possibly they are drilled all the way through; I can't tell because of how they are set in the mounting. At least one and probably all of the pearls are natural, un-cultured saltwater pearls. They are older than the ring itself. It's not unusual to encounter repurposed jewelry elements in jewels from the 1940s and early 1950s. Natural pearls have unrivaled luster which these pearls, indeed, display. They are cream and display the spectral play of light called "orient" seen in many natural pearls. They have soft pink and silver overtones. The undercarriage of the ring features elaborate scrollwork. The ring has been resized at some point and I believe this is why there is no maker's mark, though the metal fineness mark for 14K does remain. On one shoulder is a cut. It's very strange and really only noticeable in magnified images. If you are troubled by this mystery mark, it's an easy fix by your local jeweler. But I don't mind it at all. It's just part of the unknown story of this spectacular and glamorous ring. Currently a size 4.75, this ring could be resized by your local jeweler. Ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is untreated Jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).
