About the Item
This Spectra Fine Jewelry Colombian Emerald Convertible Flower Ring and Pendant, made in the Contemporary Era, circa 2010s, features 8 emeralds including 7 pear-shape and 1 triangular, weighing approximately 27.09 carats total. The 7 pear shape emeralds have an approximate carat weight per stone of 6.13, 4.78, 3.04, 3.58, 2.50, 2.17, and 1.50. The triangular emerald has an approximate weight of 3.39 carats. Seven various-sized petals radiate around a central rounded triangle and are mounted in platinum with four to six prongs per stone. As a cocktail ring or as a pendant, the sculptural piece is bold yet endearing with each sizable emerald displaying its particular glow, saturation, and subtlety.
Emerald is the green to bluish green variety of beryl, a mineral species that also includes aquamarine as well as beryls in other colors. The degree of green is derived from a presence and relative amounts of the trace elements, chromium, vanadium, and iron. Evaluating emerald quality, especially clarity, can be very complex. Clarity is important, but inclusions are tolerated more in emeralds than virtually any other gem. The GRS offers more context for this emerald in their lab report stating, “Due to their growth conditions in nature and recovery methods, most emeralds contain surface reaching features. For this reason, clarity enhancement is a common trade practice.”
The reverse side of this convertible ring and pendant shows the innovative jewelry making of Spectra Fine Jewelry, calling to mind the savoir faire of some of the finest French Maisons. The mounting for the pendant lets light shine through the precious green gemstones, simply tracing the outline of each in 18K white gold. Separately, the entire ring piece is cleverly attached and detached with a system of loops and balls crafted in white gold. The chain is not included and sold separately. Ring size is US 7. The emeralds are certified by GRS stating that they are Colombian with minor to moderate clarity enhancement.
