About the Item

Trilogy rings were especially popular during the early 20th century, as they are carriers of a romantic message: comprising three gemstones, they allude to the shared past, presence and future of a couple. Often, as here, the central gemstone differs from the two others in order to emphasize the importance of the presence. This ring brings the message across through two large old mine cut diamonds and a mabé pearl. The pearl is embedded into the centre of the ring face, flanked by the two diamonds on curved ornaments. Typically of the time, platinum is overlaid onto the yellow golden base, making the piece appear white when worn. 22 smaller diamonds glisten on the entirety of the white surface. This precious and perfectly preserved ring was made in the years around 1910 for one of the most famous jewellers of the time: The Brothers Friedländer. Their luxurious shop was situated at the boulevard Unter den Linden, not far from the city palace. At the time, they were jewellers to the court of the German Emperor, and so this prestigious standing was printed into the top of of the silk-drawn lid as well: „GEBR. FRIEDLÄNDER / HOFJUWELIERE / Sr. Majestät des Kaisers, Ihr. Majestät der Kaiserin / u. Sr. kaiserlichen Hoheit des Kronprinzen. BERLIN W." (Brothers Friedländer, Jewellers to the Court of His Majesty the Emperor, Her Majesty the Empress and His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince). How excited the young man must have been who once purchased this ring for his beloved, we can only guess. What we do know, however, is that circumstance placed the ring in Paris sometime later, as the shank shows Parisian import marks. From there, it travelled back to Germany, more specifically to Hanover, where we found this rare and precious jewel. The ring comes with the independent certificate of a renowned gemological institute (DEGEB). It will be delivered in its antique box.
