Italian Vintage Ring 18k white gold, angel skin coral cabochon and diamonds
About the Item
One of a kind Italian ring with 18k white gold setting crowned with a pink coral or angel skin coral cabochon and bands of pavé-set diamonds on the shoulders of the setting, one on each side. It is perfect as an engagement or commitment ring. Precious coral with a uniform angel skin color is the most valued in jewelry. It was widely used in mid-20th century designs, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. It has an adaptable reducer, easily removable in a jewelry workshop.
The name of the coral comes from the Greek "Kovra Halos" and means "Woman of the sea." They are colonial invertebrate animals that belong to the cnidarian family, are made up of hundreds or thousands of individuals called zooids and can reach large dimensions. Coral reefs are so fragile that they could disappear in the next decades due to global warming and climate change.
Corals have long been used to protect people from bad influences. The Romans, and until the Middle Ages, had the custom of hanging a small piece of red coral around the neck of children because they believed that it gave them healing properties and protected them from possible evils. It symbolizes blood, the Cosmos and the Sea as a source of life. Thanks to its extraordinary beauty, it has been one of the most used materials in jewelry as a gem of organic origin.
