0.58 Carat Red Spinel and Diamond Gold Ring
About the Item
We bought this modern two-tone ring in 14-karat gold. Elke liked the way the matted gold dome was done and we replaced the pongs for the center stone with half-bezels to make the design more streamlined and more wearable. The 0.58 carats red Burmis Spinel just suited the ring perfectly. The twenty VS clarity and G/H color diamonds weigh .32 carats and high light the white gold, while the yellow gold shows off the VS grade 5.3 x 4.5 mm red Spinel perfectly.
The width of the ring is 10.8 mm on top and tapers down to 6.7 mm. The ring size is a 7, but it should only be resized a maximum of 2 sizes up or down because of the shank width.
With a hardness of 8 on the moh's hardness scale, Spinels are wearer friendly.
Spinels are probably one of the most misunderstood gemstones in the world. They were finally recognized as an individual mineral 150 years ago, up until then, they were thought to be rubies. They are actually found in various colors in placer deposits that also contain ruby and sapphire. The single refractive, cubic octagonal crystals that are not damaged can be used in picking out the spinel from other materials. However, broken or shattered rough requires a closer inspection for positive identification. Additional identification complications came about in the 1920s when a synthetic spinel was introduced into the world markets. Some of the lab-created spinel colors are not found in nature.
Spinel along with Peridot is the recognized and commercially accepted gemstones for those born in August.
