Emerald Ring in Platinum Featuring GIA Certified 42 Carat Carved Russian Emerald
About the Item
A massive, absolutely staggering 42 carat impeccably hand-carved natural Russian emerald that is so transparent it appears to be glass is the stunning focalpoint of this wildly original and incredibly impressive ring.
The angular, modernist platinum mounting has been painstakingly hand-tooled to create a lined checkerboard pattern on the shoulders, giving way to a luxurious satin finish in the back. This satin finish has an added benefit: should you choose to have this ring resized from its current size 7, there is no checkerboard texturing to replicate (nearly impossible) or lose.
But let us speak of the emerald. Emeralds are classified as Type III gemstone by the GIA. This means that one must expect emeralds to lack transparency. Emeralds typically contains what are called three-phase inclusions: air bubble, crystal structures, and liquid. So when one shops for a jewel that features an emerald, one must expect a gemstone that is heavily included. Which makes this intricately carved, jungle-green emerald all the more exotic. Because it is exceptionally clean. In fact, on the GIA certificate, it is designated as "transparent".
The massive 42-carat oval cabochon has been carved on the face to depict a flower. But the lines are thick, not delicate. This is a bold statement ring that can be worn by anyone of any gender. The modernist platinum mounting is likewise impressive. This is a one-of-a-kind ring that was created almost certainly in America in the 1970s.
