Antique 18K Ring Centering a Natural Very Fine Blue Zircon, American, c. 1890
About the Item
Antique Victorian 18K gold ring centering a very fine natural blue zircon weighing an estimated 7.50 cts. This oval stone is intensely brilliant and a vivid blue color and free of inclusions. This Victorian ring is from the last quarter of the 19th century. It has fine hand engraving and an unusual patina called a "bloom" finish. It is a size 8.5 and can easily be resized. Natural blue zircons are ancient stones. They have been used in jewelry for thousands of years and is mentioned in the Old Testament. Intense bright blue color is the most popular and seen most notably in jewelry from the 19th and early 20th. Natural zircons are second only to diamonds in their brilliance and scintillation.
Today, a preponderance of jewelry is machine made in large factories around the world with abundant and obvious suspicions as to its enduring qualities using not only inferior stones, but also man made stones and treated stones utilizing artificial substances. Alternatively, this antique ring is one of a kind, a fine example of Victorian craftsmanship, and the center Zircon is bright, clean and well cut.
