About the Item

Now you can have the option of wearing a diamond and sapphire or a diamond and ruby set band for the purchase of one ring. The fabricator of this very finely crafted ring took the high road when it comes to craftsmanship. Platinum is the metal of choice for a triple band look featuring fifteen (15) natural rubies with a total weight of about .75 carats or the same number and carat weight of sapphires. Each of these thirty (30) gems is French cut ? which are expensive to work and to facet ? and not often seen due to the time demands of the process. This cut lends more brilliance to channel set stones (such as these are) than do the typical simple rectangular or square step cuts. Moreover, thirty (30) graduated brilliant cut diamonds of an estimated total weight of .40 carats (H-I color; VS2-SI1 clarity) embellish the ?top? and ?bottom? sections of the ring. A less expensive version would have been set with single cut diamonds (that have far fewer facets). The middle band is bisected and channel set half with rubies and the other with sapphires. Both of the ends of the two diamond sections host a hinge which enables those parts to ?flip over? and incorporate either the ruby or the sapphire gems. This diamond, sapphire and ruby platinum ring is most certainly the best of both worlds. Date: Mid 20th century. Note: This item is one ring. Measurements: Ruby and sapphire band are 1/8 of an inch (3 mm) in width; diamond band is 1/16 of an inch (2 mm) in width; total width with gem and both diamond guards is 1/4 of an inch (7 mm) in width; 1/16 of an inch (2 mm) in height off the finger. Ring Size: US 6-1/2 (UK M-1/2; Euro or Int. Circum. 53.1 mm; Int. Dia. 16.9 mm; Japan 13). This ring cannot be sized up, but could be sized down with inserts. Note: Stones were not removed to preserve the integrity of the setting. All weights are approximated by measurement and formula and may vary from actual weights. Grading may vary if stones are removed.
