Genuine Roman intaglio 1st-2nd cent. AD 18 kt Gold Ring depicting Goddess Athena

About the Item

Crafted with precision in 18 kt gold by our skilled artisans, this captivating ring features an ancient Roman carnelian intaglio, a relic dating back to the 1st-2nd century AD. Engraved within is the resplendent Goddess Athena, donning her Corinthian helmet, depicted in a poised stance leaning upon a plow while adorned in the protective Aegis. Her significance in mythology extends as the revered creator of the plow, an esteemed figure pivotal in agricultural history. Athena's ingenuity revolutionized farming by introducing the harnessing of oxen to the yoke, a method integral to cultivating the land, and generously gifting humanity with the revered olive tree. Moreover, Athena's legacy as an inventor expands beyond agriculture. Historically documented, she's credited with the introduction of divinatory dice, an innovation that eventually permeated popular culture, although its practice remained primarily within the elite echelons of both Greek and Roman societies. Her inventive spirit transcends singular realms; she delved into the creation of bridles, looms, and an array of other innovations, a testament echoed in accounts such as those penned by Graves. "Described by Graves, Athena's myriad contributions are celebrated in his words: 'Athena, the inventive deity, bestowed upon humanity the flute, the trumpet, the clay pot, the plow, the rake, the yoke for oxen, the bridle for horses, the chariot, and the ship.' She was not solely confined to technological innovations but was also the first to impart the sciences of numbers and various feminine arts, encompassing culinary skills, spinning, and weaving. Despite being a Goddess associated with warfare, Athena disdains bloody conflicts favored by Ares and Eris, preferring to arbitrate disputes and uphold justice through peaceful means. In times of peace, she refrains from carrying arms, seeking them only when necessary, and petitioning Zeus for their temporary use. Her compassion and magnanimity are indeed unparalleled." Our jewelry store, Serra Roma, proudly presents an exquisite collection that beautifully honors the ancient traditions of Greek and Roman civilizations. Each piece in our collection, including authentic ancient Roman and Greek coins and intaglios, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, providing proof of its historical significance and origin.
