Antique Tiffany Young & Ellis Sterling Silver 4pc Tea Set with Monogram

About the Item

Antique sterling silver 4 piece tea set by Tiffany Young & Ellis, designed by John C. Moore, circa 1841-53. Tiffany Young & Ellis was started by Charles Lewis Tiffany, John B Young and J. Lewis Ellis, and was known for selling the finest goods from 1841 til 1853 when the company became Tiffany & Co. The 4 pieces of this ornate set include a tea pot, a creamer, a lidded sugar bowl and a waste bowl. The teapot, creamer and sugar bowl feature an ovoid body with floral etched scroll bracket handles. The teapot also features an etched floral spout. The waste bowl is round without handles, all 4 pieces feature the same repousse and chased floral and leaf design with beaded rims. The creamer has 1 monogrammed cartouche under the spout, the 3 other pieces have a monogrammed cartouche on one side and a blank cartouche on the other side. The teapot and the sugar bowl lids are domed and topped with swan finials atop a beautifully etched flower and leaf design. The creamer's base has been filled, presumably to reduce the risk of spillage. Monograms appear to be EG The tea pot measures approx 6 1/2" high to top of finial, 10 1/2" wide from spout to handle, opening measures approx 3 3/4" x 2", base measures approx 6 5/8" x 4 1/8". The sugar bowl measures approx 5 1/2" high to top of finial, 7 7/8" wide from handle to handle, opening measures approx 5 1/2" x 3 1/4", base measures approx 4 1/8" x 2 3/8". The creamer measures approx 6" high to top of spout, 7" high to top of handle, 5 1/4" wide from handle to spout, opening measures approx 4" x 2 1/2", base measures approx 2 7/8" x 1 7/8". The waste bowl measures approx 4 1/4" high, 6 1/8" diameter opening, 3 3/8" diameter base. The tea pot weighs approx 501dwt/779g/25.05toz The sugar bowl weighs approx 304dwt/473g/15.2toz The creamer weighs approx 301dwt/468g/15.05toz The waste bowl weighs approx 230dwt/358g/11.5toz All pieces together weigh approx 1336dwt/2078g/66.8toz The teapot is marked with retailer and maker stamps: TIFFANY YOUNG & ELLIS JCM, the sugar bowl and waste bowl are marked with retailer, maker stamp and pattern number: TIFFANY YOUNG & ELLIS JCM 35. Any hallmarks on the creamer are covered by the base filling. Very nice condition with some tarnish and surface scratching on all pieces. Tea pot has small dent on each side of the pot, under both cartouches. Sugar bowl has 2 pin dents on the blank cartouche. Creamer has dent near the bottom of the spout side.
