Gorgeous French Sterling Silver Dessert/Hors d'Oeuvre Set 4 pc Art Nouveau period Head of Minerve 1 st titre on the handles for 950/1000 French Sterling Silver guarantee. Silverplate upper parts. A set of truly exceptional quality, for the richness of its decoration, its form and sculpting. Handles have Art Nouveau decoration with thistles. The Greeks and Romans attributed thistles many medicinal properties and held them in high esteem, not hesitating to pay large sums to get them. They were also known for nullify the bad omens and cast out demons. The set includes a knife, a pierced server, a fork & pierced spoon. No monogrammed. Prestigious silversmith : Gustave Veyrat 7 rue du Perche - Paris was active from march 16, 1894 to september 7, 1911 They exhibited and received prizes in almost all the national and international exhibitions. Starting with a bronze medal at the "Exposition d'industrie francaise" in 1827 for their fine cutlery; they also won awards in 1834, 1839, 1844, 1849, 1853, 1855, 1861, 1863, 1867, and in 1878 in Paris when Veyrat Père was a member of the jury for silverware. The Maison Veyrat was succeeded by Victor Boivin in the early XXth century.
