Antique Victorian English Sterling Silver Footed Bowl by George Aldwinckle

About the Item

A fine Victorian crested English bowl. In sterling silver. By George Aldwinckle. In a George II Revivalist style with scrolled feet and legs that terminate in human faces supporting a ribbed body with a scalloped rim decorated with a laurel leaf garland around its circumference. Having a gilt wash to the interior. The bowl has a cartouche to each side engraved with a family crest depicting an arm holding an Anglican cross aloft and a banner inscribed with the motto "Deo Juvante" (that translates to "With the help of God"). Simply a wonderful piece of finely crafted English sterling silver! Date: 1888 Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There are some fine and light dings & indentations to the bowl here and there. Otherwise, there is some light edge wear, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Maker: George Aldwinckle Marks: Marked to the base with English hallmarks for Sterling / London / 1888, as well as with a GA for George Aldwinckle and 216 for a model number.
