Theodore Deck Blue Vase, 19th Century

About the Item

This large and spectacular late 19th century turquoise vase was made circa 1867 by Théodore Deck, the most admired ceramic artist in France in the late nineteenth century. Théodore Deck was well-known for the glazes that he developed, especially a rich turquoise blue that became known in French as 'bleu de Deck'. This vase is decorated in a Chinese style and, considering the shape, design and turquoise colour, is very close to Chinese ceramic originals of the 1700s. The piece is decorated with a turquoise glaze and geometric ornament in Chinese style with two dogs of foe handles. The base of the vase is marked TH Deck. The same piece can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum collection in London. The vases were sold as lamps at Christie's London in 2016. DIMENSIONS: Height: 33cm Width: 13.5cm Circumference: 74cm CONDITION: A chip on the edge, a few chips on the handles, a hole drilled for a lamp conversion
