Designed entirely in brilliant round cut diamonds with a diamond set tree and leaf motif on either side of the dial to compliment the design of the bracelet watch bezel and an open work rope textured bracelet meant to place further emphasis on the diamonds by suspending each one in the center of the open work bracelet, the present timepiece is a beautiful example of how nature inspired one of the most legendary and fashion forward design firms of all time. During this timeframe, Piaget was producing intricate, entirely diamond set delicately produced diamond timepieces as the present example. The theme of foliate designs such as tree branches, leaves and flowers found in nature such as the present Piaget exhibits here have long been a source of inspiration for the leading jewelry design firms since the 1600s. The present timepiece which is encrusted with 10 diamonds to form the leaves and 16 brilliant round cut diamonds to form the tree branches and an additional 45 precisely selected graduated brilliant round cut diamonds to create the open work textured bracelet and bezel, all of which were carefully well matched and sized for specific effect and comfort. At the beginning of the 1950s and for a very limited time thereafter, Piaget sought to produce very beautiful airy diamond design concept bracelet watches to compete with other leading brands as a means to separate their firm from the other competing brands and establish their designs and workmanship as fashion forward for the women's marketplace, before eventually placing emphasis on more mass produced hard stone dial bracelet watches into the 1970s. Unlike many of the other timepiece manufacturers which were primarily interested in the men’s timepiece market clientele only, Piaget understood and focused on the lady’s marketplace and sought to infuse each of their timepieces’ creations with a higher sense of individuality combined with a chic style that would be both versatile and elegant regardless of the event type being worn: casual or cocktail attire and for any time of day. With Piaget’s ability to produce smaller movements than most of their competitors and expert gem setters with master skills to design and select the highest quality stones, Piaget had a unique advantage over its competition to produce some of the most mesmerizing bracelet watch concepts the world had ever seen from the 1960s and onward. The present example which was designed with special attention to each element of detail on the timepiece, from the dial to the gemstone quality and case design is an example of the firms workmanship which laid a foundation for Piaget to become one of the most sought-after brands back then keeping their creations as popular then as they are today, if not more sought after. Also, interesting to note, during this timeframe many of the firm’s clients were some of the most well-known icons of their day, ranging from princesses, maharajas, Industry leaders and ambassadors, presidents’ wives such as Jackie Kennedy and famous celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor to name a few. Design concepts such as the present example were commissioned to be timeless in style with workmanship and attention to detail, second to none. As demonstrated on the present example all elements of the timepiece were taken into consideration to draw a specific effect at the client’s request. The dial which exhibits 18kt white gold baton markers on a silvery white finish dial is both sophisticated and elegant as well as notably, in perfect condition. In addition to the dial, the timepiece’s bracelet is further designed with special attention to have a woven rope textured finish in 18kt white gold to hold each of the diamonds which are set in between to give the illusion that the diamonds are free floating on the user’s wrist and moreover each of the diamonds were carefully selected to be graduated in design, so they become smaller as they flow outward from the timepieces dial to the clasp in size order. The present openwork bracelet design concept not only allowed for the user to wear the timepiece with great comfort and flexibility for the wrist to move more freely than most other diamond watches which were rigid, but it also maintained a special emphasis on the diamonds as they run along the bracelet themselves. Without the additional metal setting designed underneath as some other diamond bracelets timepieces were designed, the entire focus remains on the allure of the diamonds themselves making the present timepiece exquisite. In 1874, at age 19, Georges-Édouard Piaget (1855–1931) began manufacturing handmade timepiece components and movements in a workshop on his family farm in La Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland. The company expanded into luxury wristwatches and pocket watches under the direction of Georges-Édouard’s son, Timothée Piaget. Later, Timothée’s sons, Gérald and Valentin Piaget, would lead a team of talented craftspeople into a new era of innovation for the brand in both watches and luxury jewelry.

The Piaget family name was trademarked in 1943 and a large manufacturing facility was established in La Côte-aux-Fées. There they would perfect one of their signatures: ultra-thin movements. Valentin urged his design team to “do what has never been done before.” In 1959, the Salon Piaget was opened in Geneva, where Piaget also set up workshops for goldsmithing and gem setting, introducing the company’s inaugural jewelry creations and establishing a creative hub where artisans were encouraged to push the boundaries of their designs. In 1963, Piaget released its first collection of watches with ornamental stones set into their dials (the brand's stone-dial watches are undeniable classics of watchmaking).

These artful creations caught the eye of such storied tastemakers as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor, Andy Warhol and Sophia Loren. In 1967, Yves Piaget collaborated with Salvador Dalí on a collection with pieces featuring the Dalí d’Or gold medals of the artist and his wife, Gala. Gala would also inspire the 1973 Limelight Gala timepiece and the subsequent collection. Luxury jewelry designed by the company’s artisans have often cleverly reflected Piaget’s watchmaking origins, like the Possession collection, whose swinging pendants and turning rings nod to the movement of its watches. The Rose and Sunlight collections of bracelets, earrings and necklaces, meanwhile, reflect natural themes with a bit of Art Deco style. Piaget’s watches, likewise, have embodied an inventive approach to design, such as the Piaget Polo watch, which was introduced in 1979, popular for its luxurious refinement and widely imitated in the 1980s.

In 2001, the Piaget Haute Horlogerie was opened outside of Geneva, a facility that advanced its work in watchmaking and jewelry. The Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweler now operates as part of the Richemont Group.
