This Fratelli Reguitti X-form valet, in the style of Ico and Luisa Parisi, is in exceptionally good condition.
It features a lovely, rich mahogany stained beech timber frame, brass hardware and rubber wheels. The whole unit is tight and solid, with fine surfaces and in excellent working condition.
There are some signs of age of course. The shoe rails have lost their brass plating. Charmingly, a little remains as a hint of the previously flashy appearance. There are a few very minor dings and scuffs on the timber surfaces. There's a little wear to the finish on the shoulder ends of the hanger. A very minor bruise in the ridges of timber that run across the top of the stand, we carefully sanded the inside of the ridges to smooth away any uneven surface so that fabric will not catch. This remarkable piece is utterly different than those normally produced in Yazd the desert city of Iran . Produced in a village which has by all accounts ceased weaving over the past 50 ore more years, its patterns are Zoroastrian in origin , and very rarely seen . The black colours are produced in undyed goat wool and the lighter shades in Lambs wool , the subtle rose and saffron colours created using rose flower and saffron dyes . The carpet is in very fine condition and tightly woven . Given its rarity and singular , mysterious patterns, this is a vintage collectible and an investment . A splendid brass example of the Chiavari style first developed in the coastal town of Chiavari, south of Milan, Italy.
This particular specimen is in excellent condition, with a lovely recent restoration of the upholstery, well cushioned, in a tasteful dark green velvet. The chair is in very sound condition and is of a higher quality than others we have handled - notably the shaping of the feet and the back are particularly fine.
The original Chiavari chair is a delicate-boned creature in light-weight timber, designed to be both light and strong. It’s turned timber frame gave the opportunity for elaborate decoration which was popular in the mid to late 1800s.
The brass version was created in the 1950s as a playful reference to the original, the brass emphasising the elaborate framework. It’s intended as a decorative chair for hallways, as a bedside chair, or can be used as a feature chair...
