The table is stamped with the maker's mark on the top of the upright as seen in figure 10. Leleu was proclaimed master in 1764 and continued to work until shortly before his death in 1807. He completed his apprenticship under Oeben and worked breifly under Riesener. Among his Parisian clients he counted the Prince de Conde and Louis XV and his mistress Madame du Barry. He is best known for his mastery of marquetry and the use of sevres plaques in his early fruniture and in his later life for his talent with mechanical fittings,locks and metamorphic furniture...
