An unusual 1970s German Peill & Putzler flush mount ceiling light or large wall light. The circular glass shade is secured to the aluminium fitting with a bolt in the centre which sits inside the decorative chrome knob and disc. Two E27 screw in bulbs sit within the shade facing in opposite directions in order to evenly distribute the light. The design is wonderful with sandblasted oval-shaped lozenges which get smaller towards the middle - "ever decreasing lozenges" with the smallest one creating a flower around the chrome disc. I have seen this light attributed to Kalmar Lighting and Glashutte Limburg but I am pretty certain it's Peill & Putzler but I am happy to stand corrected if anyone knows better. In very good vintage condition with some small scratches to the chrome disc in the centre. Rewired by a professional electrician and in full working order.

Unusual 1970s German Peill & Putzler wall lights which could also be used as ceiling flush mounts for a small room perhaps a bathroom/cloackroom or along a hallway with a low ceiling. The circular glass shade is secured to the aluminium fitting with a bolt in the centre which sits inside the decorative chrome knob and disc. A single E27 screw in bulb sits within the shade. The design is wonderful with sandblasted oval-shaped lozenges which grow smaller and change shape towards the centre - "ever decreasing lozenges" - with the smallest one creating a flower around the chrome disc. A simple architectural piece comprising twin ceiling lights on a single back plate, designed by Alvar Aalto and stamped by the Finnish manufacturer Idman.
Overall the fixture is in fair vintage condition with lots of signs of wear from age and use - scratches, dents, dust and fading - all left as found. See images for examples of details and overview, or contact us if you would like more information.
Wiring:
The original wiring has been partially removed, and will need to be replaced prior to install. The original bulb-holders took E27 screw-fitting bulbs; as with all vintage pieces we recommend the use of low heat bulbs to protect the fixture for the future. There are two holes on the plate for installation (fixings not included). The diffusers simply rest in place, and can be removed for shipping.
This design is believed to have been created for the Enso-Gutzeit headquarters in Helsinki, which was designed by Aalto and completed in 1962. Idman Oy were a manufacturer of high quality lighting by designers...
