19th Century Corner Chair American or English
Located in Lomita, CA
The cherub upholstery fabric of this antique corner chair will bring a smile to your face, but the piece deserves a deeper look. It has a secret.: The chair has a "second skin," in a tweed upholstery that someone was reluctant to remove. The cherub upholstery on the armrest of the chair is actually a shawl or drape for the for the chair. It is Victorian, carved and turned walnut on a part-upholstered corner armchair that is English or American from the late 19th Century according to our appraiser. The seat is triangular with a rounded front rail, that is backed by two low arms with raised upholstery. The curved seat rail has a long fringe trim, all raised on four cylindrical bead turned legs on casters. The detachable fabric drape or shawl is priceless. Appraisers beleive this could have possibly been half of a two-piece tete-a-tete chair...

19th Century George IV English Burr Walnut Armchair “Shepherds Crooks” Made by G
By Gillows of Lancaster & London
Located in Bjuråker, SE
A beautifully decorated and handmade “Shepherds Crooks” armchair from England, mid 19th century. The Cartouche-shaped back veneered in figured burr walnut, the silk needlework upholstery (from a later period) in a flower design and silk on the armrest give this chair a very rich look. The firm chair is in good condition, only the upholstery from the seat has on the side a few cracks. Because this hand-stitched fabric with a flower design is so beautiful and usable, I left it that way. The history of this chair is extensively described in various books. This chair is a copy of a familiar design of an 18th century dressing...
