About the Item
Grazia 215 vase by Stig Lindberg for Gustavberg studio.
The vase has a white matte glaze with intricate raised silver painted motifs depicting a half nude woman holding grapes, surrounded by flowers and bay leafs. The motif has a whimsical Ancient Greece aesthetic, giving the whole vase an almost Art Nouveau look.
This specific vase is slightly different as the bottom of the vase shows a Special Commission annotation.
Stig Lindberg (1916-1982) is one Scandinavia's most noted postwar designers. He joined the Gustavsberg studio in 1937 and was formed by Willhelm Kåge. He was named Kåge's successor in 1949 and became art director of Gustavsberg himself. His work was featured in Sweden's National Museum and has won many awards, including the Milan Triennale gold medal and Grand Prix. His designs from the 1950s and 1960s (such as this piece from 1967) are the most sought after.
